qing dynasty small antique child's chair in elm
Dynasties of Asia has a VERY RARE and EXCEPTIONALLY UNIQUE Q'ing
Dynasty Small Child's Chair made from yumu, or Chinese elm wood.
Our Q'ing Dynasty chair is 300 years old and originates from the
Henan province (east of central China, along the Yellow River).
The uniqueness of this Chinese antique chair is in the fact that
it does not feature the standard straight-vertical back, but a
reclined back.
The design of this Chinese antique chair indicates that it was
used by a child from an upper class (or highly-respected)
family, especially made for the female child to accommodate her
comfort. It is interesting to note that the Henan province
during the Q'ing Dynasty was relatively poor. On the other hand,
the province was known primarily as the cultural epicenter for
opera. All of that creates a mystery around this
remarkable Chinese antique.
Dynasties of Asia has learned the significance of the mandarin
in the center of the back of this Chinese antique chair.
It depicts a carved Chinese phoenix, or Feng Huang, which is
representative of the female.
The phoenix is symbolic of virtue and grace, of power and
prosperity, and most importantly, honor and respect.
Thus, the Q'ing Dynasty child's chair is considerably worthy of
investment, and will require special art handling due to its
rare and symbolic importance.
