Rare Antique An Ba Xian rug from Wangdan, Tibet with dazzling
color in wool
Dynasties of Asia offers this beautiful rug, originating from
the Wangdan are of Tibet.
The rug is 140-150 years old and is made of wool. The
primary color of this Q'ing Dynasty rug is red.
There are three groups of peonies, representing wealth and
riches.
The symbols in the background are decorated with
the Ba Xian pattern, which represents 'The Eight Mortals' in
Taoist mythology.
The eight immortals are as follows:

Zhang Guo-lao - legend has it that Zhang
could bring life back from the dead;

Lu Dong-bin - through the use of a sword
that was given to him by a dragon, he was known for
conquering ignorance, aggression, and passion.

Cao Guo-jiu - the brotherin-law of an
emperor during the Song Dynasty, was a patron of actors, and
attained perfection, an immortal trait.

Zhong Li-quan - It is claimed that during a
major famine during the Han dynasty Zhong made silver money
to give to the poor

Li-Tie-guai - known as 'Li with the Iron
Crutch) who achieve immortality by allowing himself the fate
of being disfigured when being brought back to a physical
being from a pile of ashes.

Han Xian-zi - known to have supernatural
abilities.

He Xian-gu - the only female immortal, who
had lived during the Tang Dynasty.

Lan Cai-he - a strange immortal, known to be a
pauper, but who had the ability to disappear into thin air while
riding on a crane.
According to traditional Chinese belief, it is said that the
owner of this rug would benefit from luck and good fortune.
