Rare Antique 'Honor and Riches' rug from Baotou, Inner Mongolia
Dynasties of Asia offers this remarkable 'wall rug' which has
been meticulously preserved.
This 'wall rug' is entitled 'Honor and Riches', and originates
from Baotou, Inner Mongolia.
Our Q'ing Dynasty 'wall rug' measures L: 48.43" X W: 26.28" and
is over 125 years old.
The beautifully colored antique rug has peonies and other
flowers, which suggests that the 'wall rug' was made for
somebody wishing them a long, enduring life ahead without any
obstacles.
This is known through various classical symbols (known as knots)
that are on each of the pots. Also, the water symbol
(known as jingzi) is present in the round pot.
According to the 'rug expert' the simple story of this 'wall
rug' tells that the owner of this rug may have been either a
delegate or official, due to the size of the pots that the
flowers and branches are supported.
